Bakamla Attending Workshop in Sea Traffic Management

Thursday 17/3/2016, Bakamla attended workshop that was held by Center for Sustainable Infrastructure Development (CSID) Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia and SAAB Swedia with theme “Promoting safer and more secure waterways with the implementation of high technology in Sea Traffic Management”.

 

The event was a medium or sharing information and knowledge between government, academic and practitioners in sustainable maritime infrastructure. It took place in Chevron room, Dekanat Building, University of Indonesia, Depok. Several governmental agencies also attended the workshop as well as military agency, Ministry of transportation, Ministry of Marine Affair and Fisheries, Syahbandar Tanjung Priok, Pelindo II, Navy, Ministry of defense and domestic researchers. Several foreign agencies also attended the workshop, such as Swedish defense and security ccompany, SAAB and researchers from Institute of Royal Technology KTH, Swedia.

 

The workshop was commenced by welcoming speech of Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA (Dean of Engineering Faculty, UI) and Orjan Borgefalk (Vice President Industrial Cooperation SAAB), and followed by the signing of academic agreement. Chief of CSID Engineering Faculty UI, Jachrizal Sumabrata, Ph.D and First Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta, Mr. Eddy Fonyódi, were acting as witnesses during the signing.

 

The workshop was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ir. Teuku Yuri M from CSID UI. On this workshop Bakamla was represented by CAPT Maritime Arief Meidyanto, head of Maritime Distress Information Management Office, which presented Early Warning System (EWS) encompasses its background, legal framework and supporting infrastructure. He furthermore explained Bakamla’s EWS and its function in supporting Bakamla’s duty, serving a safety and security protection of Indonesian waters.

 

Ministry of defense also presented concerning Indonesian waters. It was presented that activities in Indonesian waters are increasing year by year, so that require an effort in protecting and managing Indonesian sea traffic.
